DHL Opens Sustainable CityHub in Helmond

Utrecht, April 12, 2024 - DHL eCommerce officially opened the new CityHub in Helmond on Thursday, April 11. The ceremony took place in the presence of customers and representatives of the municipality, including Alderman Arno Bonte. From the sustainable building located at Branchweg 8 in the Hoogeind industrial park, 110 employees sort and deliver over 10,000 packages per day in a large circle around Helmond, including areas like Mierlo, Nuenen, Stiphout, Deurne, and the eastern part of Eindhoven. This is done fossil-free with electric vehicles. The CityHub replaces an existing location on Mierloseweg. All employees have moved to the new building.

Arno Bonte, Alderman for Sustainability: "We congratulate DHL on this new location and are delighted to have this form of urban distribution in our municipality. This CityHub is a great example of sustainable entrepreneurship that we are eager to further develop in Helmond."

Roelof Hofman, COO of DHL eCommerce Benelux: "With this CityHub, we have an excellent base in this bustling region, through which we can deliver even more sustainably on behalf of our customers. For our employees, it is a workplace that prioritizes their safety."

The CityHub is built according to the BREEAM Outstanding sustainability standard. The location is gas-free and equipped with solar panels. The short distances to households in the region, smart routes, high load factors, and electric buses optimize sustainability and reduce traffic movements. In these routes, DHL ServicePoints and parcel lockers such as those at Helmond Sport are also serviced. Picking up or dropping off packages at these service points is seen as even more sustainable, especially when done on foot or by bicycle.

CityHub Helmond is the thirteenth CityHub built in a short time in the Dutch network of 130 local locations. In the coming period, DHL will open three more CityHubs, namely in Almelo, Arnhem, and in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, and construction is underway in other locations.

Recently, the first pole was also erected for DHL's fifth national sorting center. These centers supply the 130 CityHubs spread throughout the Netherlands, including those in Helmond.
